Educational Opportunities

PUBLIC SCHOOLS: The Calico Rock Public School System, one of the Highest Rated Schools in the State of Arkansas, is in full compliance with Arkansas' new higher education standards. Both the Elementary and the High School is accredited by the North Central Association, an accomplishment which very few small schools ever attain. Over the past 5 years, an average of 38% of the graduating seniors continued their education at colleges and universities. The public school system is the custodian of the Calico Rock Community Center which houses the county health nurse's office. The auditorium is available for many community functions. The North Arkansas Educational Co-Op located at Melbourne provides a wide variety of extra educational services to area schools.

HIGHER EDUCATION: Several colleges credit courses are offered at the local high school. The education center at nearby Mountain Home houses daytime and evening classes provided by North Arkansas Community Colleges of Harrison, Arkansas State University of Jonesboro, and the University of Central Arkansas at Conway, making it possible for a community student to obtain an Associate's degree and a Bachelor's degree by attending on a part-time basis. Ozarka Technical College, in Melbourne, offers two years of accredited courses, which are provided by Arkansas State College in Beebe. These credits are transferable to any state supported college in Arkansas. Ozarka also offers RN and LPN training.

VO-TECH SCHOOLS:  The Twin-Lakes Vocational Technical School of Harrison offers many classes at the Mountain Home Education Center.
